A new shower door can give an existing bathroom a more finished appearance, but the opening does not always make installation straightforward. At this West Chesterfield home, Beechwood Handymen fitted a customer-supplied enclosure around both a bowed wall and tapered shower panels.

The challenge

The left side of the opening bowed by roughly a quarter inch at its deepest point. The shower panels were also tapered. Those conditions meant the enclosure could not simply be fastened against the existing surfaces without correcting the fit.

Fitting the enclosure to the room

We checked the opening and laid out the tracks, wall channels, glass, and hardware. The work included fitting and adjusting the assembly to the existing shower surround, then sealing the connections and checking the door movement.

Tapered jamb trim corrected the alignment

We installed tapered jamb trim to compensate for the tapered panels and bring the enclosure level and into alignment. The bowed opening also required field fitting. These adjustments provided a workable fit within the existing shower instead of relying on the walls to be straight and uniform.

The finished result

The bronze-toned frame and textured glass give the shower a defined enclosure while retaining the existing surround. The finished and detail photos show the result; the before views document the opening and the measurement work behind it.
