Pellet Stove Installation in Bennington, NH

Beechwood Handymen installed a pellet stove in a Bennington, NH garage, with a raised hearth, outside combustion air, side-wall venting, and a noncombustible wall surround. The hearth also needed to make loading the elevated stove manageable for the homeowner.

A raised hearth with room to load pellets

For this garage installation, the approved scope required the stove’s ignition source to sit at least 18 inches above the floor. We built a supported hearth with noncombustible ember protection to meet that requirement.

Raising the stove also raised the hopper. We extended the platform to provide a standing area, so the homeowner could step up before lifting and pouring the pellets.

Routing the exhaust and outside air

We considered both the rear wall and the side wall. A rear-wall termination would have been below an area where snow could slide off the roof and near potential future second-floor renovations.

We used the side wall, positioning the exhaust and air intake around the existing landing and mini-split equipment while maintaining the required clearances.

Wall protection and the intake cover

We installed a noncombustible surround behind and beside the stove. It finishes the stove area and gives future drywall work a defined edge to meet.

During follow-up, we checked the exterior connections and fitted the protective cover at the outside-air intake.

Why was the stove raised?

The approved requirements for this garage project called for an ignition-source height of at least 18 inches. The hearth height and appliance clearances were planned around this stove and installation.

Why did the vent go through the side wall?

The side-wall route avoided the rear roof’s snow-shedding area and the homeowners’ planned renovation area. We also had to account for the landing and mini-split equipment.
