Shower Door Installation for a Bowed Opening in West Chesterfield, NH
Beechwood Handymen installed a customer-supplied shower door in West Chesterfield, NH. The opening had a bowed wall and tapered panels, so the enclosure needed a careful fit. We added tapered jamb trim, adjusted the tracks and hardware, and sealed the connections.

Fitting a shower door to a bowed wall
The left side of the opening bowed by about a quarter inch at its deepest point. The tapered shower panels also affected the fit. Before laying out the tracks, we measured the opening and checked the enclosure the homeowner supplied. We also checked the wall channels, glass, and hardware.
Tapered jamb trim corrected the fit
We fitted tapered jamb trim to account for the uneven surfaces and line up the enclosure. Then we adjusted the assembly and sealed the connections. Finally, we checked that the sliding door worked properly.

Keeping the existing shower surround
The bronze-toned frame and textured glass finished the shower without replacing the existing surround.

Questions about fitting a shower door
Can a shower door be fitted to an uneven opening?
In this project, yes. We measured the bow and used tapered jamb trim to correct the fit. Before choosing a repair approach, we need to check both the opening and the enclosure.
Did the homeowner supply the enclosure?
Yes. We checked the supplied enclosure against the opening, then assembled, fitted, adjusted, and sealed it.
Was the shower surround replaced?
No. We kept the existing surround and fitted the enclosure to it. Instead of replacing the surround, we used trim and adjustments to account for the uneven surfaces.
